As a Christ-centered community, Blessed Sacrament Parish seeks to ignite the hearts and minds of our youth to the love of God and all people while calling them to put their faith into action.
We seek to affirm the gifts of our youth and grow opportunities for young people to share their gifts with the larger community.
Our parish strives to integrate the youth within the life and mission of the parish through living out their baptismal call in everyday life.
Accommodations?
Children sleep in dorms with other campers of the same gender and similar age. Dorm assignments are based on grade/age. Each child is placed in a group for the week that is supervised by 1 adult staff member and several junior staff members.
Activities?
Children are busy all week long with activities such as swimming, fishing, canoeing, zip line, rock wall climbing, horseback riding, camp fires, carnival, skits, arts and crafts and other fun games designed so that all children regardless of athletic ability can be successful.
Cost?
In a spirit of stewardship based on the teaching of Jesus, no standard registration fee is charged. Each family is encouraged to contribute as they are able; keeping in mind that the actual cost per camper to our Parish is about $375.00. No child will be excluded because of inability to pay. Our parish budget includes no funding for Camp, so additional gifts to assist other families are MOST welcome! Please be as generous as your situation allows. Make checks payable to Blessed Sacrament Church and mail to Camp Leon, Blessed Sacrament Church, 305 E. Street, South Charleston, WV 25303.
Directors?
Father Paul Wharton, Deacon Tony O’Leary, Paula Durst and Bob Lilly
Staff?
Approved adult and student parishioners of Blessed Sacrament and other parishes. Red Cross certified lifeguards oversee the campers at the swimming pool, lake and all water-related activities. All adult staff are in compliance with the United Bishops’ Charter on Child Sexual Abuse Prevention. If you are interested in serving as a staff member, please let us know! We are always in need of adults to help as counselors, cooks, maintenance, arts & crafts, pictures, etc.
Travel?
Parents/guardians provide transportation to and from camp. Many families choose to car-pool together. Directions will be provided.
Deadline?
Since space is very limited at camp, applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis with a preference for Blessed Sacrament parishioners. Please send your application(s) as soon as possible. You will be notified by mail of your child’s acceptance.
